 {questions}

  • Do you only make wedding cakes?
We specialise in all things wedding, however I do still offer birthday cakes when I have availability. During wedding season between June - August I have very limited availability to fit in Celebration cakes. Head over to my facebook page for lots of photos of celebration cakes I have made.
  • When should I order my cake?
Wedding cakes should be ordered a minimum of 6-9 months in advance but we do take bookings for orders 2 years in advance. We ask for a minimum 2 weeks notice for celebration cakes. However, we will always do our best to accommodate last minute requests. Please note that we are sometimes fully booked a month in advance, so as much notice as possible is best.
  • How do I order a cake?
Please take a look at my booking process page for wedding cake orders or contact me with your wedding date and any ideas you have. For celebration cake availability please contact me.
  • Where are you located and do you have a shop?
Laura Jane Cake Design is based in Pelsall, Walsall. It is a home based business, which is registered as a food premises with Walsall council. We are fully insured and hold a Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate and a 5* Hygiene Rating. Drop in meetings/consultations not available and are by appointment only.
  • There's a flavour I would like that's not on your menu, will you make it?"
I will always try to accommodate any flavour requests and I do offer other flavours that are not on my main menu that are frequently requested such as: • Fruit cake • Red Velvet • Champagne and Strawberry • Lemon and Elderflower Another flavour you fancy? Get it touch and ill see what I can do!
  • Can you provide dummy tiers and cutting cakes?
I do offer dummy tiers, which are a great way to add height to your cake without adding the extra servings. Please bare in mind that the main cost of a cake is the decoration, so while it is cheaper than a real tier, there is still a cost for a dummy tiers decoration. Cutting cakes can also be provided and are a great way to add extra cake servings without the added cost of a larger decorated cake. They're also used often for large weddings with 230+ guests.
  • Do you provide cake stands?
I have a range of pedestal cake stands available to hire to wedding cake customers only. We ask for a security deposit which is refunded once the cake stand has been returned. If you do not want a pedestal cake stand, Its also good to check with your venue to see if they have a cake stand for you to use, or drop me a message and I might already know whether you venue supplies one!
  • A family member is baking my wedding cake, can you decorate it?"
Unfortunately I do not decorate any cakes that have not been baked by myself. While we do offer dessert tables and favours, these are only available alongside a main wedding cake order.
  • How do you accept payment?
We can accept payment by cash or bank transfers. Payments less than £50 can be paid via Paypal (or debit card through paypal) (5% surcharge). Please note we can only accept cash on collection for celebration cakes. Wedding cake payments are due by 28 days before the wedding.
  • How do I cut my cake?
Your cake cutting is such an important photo opportunity, but remember that inside the wedding cake there are support dowels and cake boards under each tier (to stop the cake from collapsing!) so go easy with that cutting knife! Your venue or caterers will then take the cake into the kitchen to be cut up into finger portions for you to serve to your guests, or dessert size portions if you're serving your cake as dessert. For celebration cakes, you will get the most servings out of your cake by cutting in finger portions instead of wedges.
  • Do you deliver cakes?
We strongly recommend that we deliver and set up your wedding cake for you. It is important that tiered cakes are transported correctly and safely as they're fragile. We will deliver on the morning of your wedding or at the time arranged. Delivery costs depend on distance of venue from Pelsall, Walsall. If the cake is collected, we will not accept responsibility for any loss or damages after the cake has left our premises.
  • Do you offer free from cakes for allergies?
Unfortunately we do not cater for allergies as we can not guarantee that our cakes have not come into contact with allergens that are used within the kitchen. I can provide nut and gluten free cakes if this is a preference but anyone with a severe allergy should not eat the cake. It is at the discretion of the guest or client if they then decide to eat the cake and we will not be liable for any reactions. If you have a severe allergy to any cake ingredients I strongly recommend choosing a baker who specialises in these cakes so they have dedicated equipment and areas to avoid cross contamination. We do not offer Egg free cakes.
  • Do you offer cake sample boxes?
We offer Wedding Cake sample boxes via post so you can try some yummy cake flavours in the comfort of your own home. They contain 6 of my most popular flavours which are Classic Vanilla, Lucious Lemon, Rich Chocolate, Raspberry and White Chocolate, Chocolate Salted Caramel* and Black Forest*. With 2 portions of each, there's no need to share! Boxes are free for couples who have already secured their date, as an alternative to a tasting consultation. If you would like to "try before you buy" cake sample boxes can be purchased for £25.00 including P&P, which is then deducted from the booking fee amount. ** The 2 chocolate flavours will sometimes be substituted for other chocolate filling flavours, depending on what is most popular at that time.
