Wedding Cake Trends 2026 - And How To Choose A Style That Actually Suits You!

Trends move quickly. Pinterest and Instagram move even faster. One minute everything is rustic, the next minute we’re piping swags and covering cakes in cherries. It’s a lot.
When it comes to wedding planning now, we’re not flicking through magazines. We’re scrolling. Instagram. Pinterest. Reels telling you what you must have, what you must not do, and what’s officially “out”.
It’s easy to start taking that advice as fact. Before you know it, you’re saving things because someone said they’re essential, not because you actually love them.
That’s when it all gets overwhelming and you end up following trends instead of choosing what genuinely suits you.
So here’s a little 2026 update. What’s popular right now, what’s quietly disappeared, and how to choose a cake style that actually feels like you, not just something the algorithm decided you should love.
The Rise (and Reinvention) of Lambeth Piping

If you’ve been on Pinterest or Instagram recently you’ll have seen it everywhere.
Lambeth piping is back in a big way. Think ornate scrolls, layered piping, pearls, swags and vintage detailing. It’s romantic, detailed and a little bit dramatic.
One thing I should say though. I don’t create Lambeth cakes in buttercream. It’s just not my style.
I pipe onto fully iced cakes using royal icing, which is actually the traditional Lambeth method. This gives a much cleaner, sharper and more refined finish. You still get all the vintage detail, but without it feeling heavy or overly fussy.
Done well, it feels elegant and intentional rather than like you panic saved a screenshot at midnight.
Statement Cakes
Another trend I’m seeing everywhere right now is statement cakes.
Large round cakes topped with piles of fresh fruit. Figs, cherries, grapes and berries. Very abundant. Very European. Very Pinterest.
Alongside these, rectangular cakes are becoming really popular too. Long cakes that sit along the table almost like a cake table runner, often styled with candles around them.
Some couples are even lighting lots of tall candles on top of the cake and blowing them out together before cutting it. It creates a lovely little moment and photographs beautifully.
They’re fun, modern and a bit different to the traditional tiered cake.
White Cakes Are Having a Moment

Another thing I’m seeing a lot right now is simply white.
All white cakes are everywhere. Which makes sense when white has been named colour of the year.
Without colour, the details really stand out. Texture, piping, draping, pearls and sculpted finishes suddenly become the focus.
Drapes, Textures and Fabric Inspired Designs
Texture is another huge trend at the moment.
Cakes that look like fabric wrapped around the tiers. Soft fondant drapes, pleats and sculpted finishes that almost look like folded material.
They feel very modern but still romantic and elegant.
What’s Quietly Disappeared
Naked Cakes
They had their moment. And while they still suit very specific rustic weddings, they’re definitely not the go to choice anymore.
I no longer offer fully naked cakes. The finish just isn’t something I feel reflects the level of polish most couples want now.
Semi naked cakes though? Very much still here.
Semi Naked Cakes, But Elevated

Semi naked is still one of my most requested styles.
The difference now is that I finish mine in ganache rather than buttercream. Ganache gives a firmer structure, sharper edges and a richer finish. It holds up beautifully on a warm wedding day and gives that rustic look a much more refined feel.
It’s relaxed without looking unfinished. Soft without looking messy.
It works perfectly with fresh flowers, sugar flowers, subtle textures and even a touch of piping if you want to blend styles.
Iced Cakes Give You the Most Freedom

If you’re someone who likes options, iced cakes are where it’s at.
This is the style that lets you go in pretty much any direction. Clean and modern with sharp edges. Soft and romantic with sugar flowers.
Covered in pearls. Finished with bows. Subtle texture. Hand painted details. Tall tiers that make a statement.
There isn’t one iced cake look. It completely depends on what you want it to be.
And if you’re indecisive, don’t worry. Most couples start with “I have no idea” and we figure it out from there!
And Yes… Cupcakes Might Be Back

Maybe they never left, but I’m seeing more couples asking about cupcake towers again.
Not in a 2012 way. More refined. Coordinated. Styled properly with a small cutting cake or statement top tier.
They’re practical, easy to serve and brilliant if you want lots of flavour variety without committing to one big design.
And honestly, they look really good when they’re done properly.
So How Do You Choose?

Here’s my honest advice.
Don’t start with a trend. Start with you.
Think about your venue. Your colour palette. The overall feel of your day. The little personal touches that make it yours.
I don’t have a fixed style that I push onto couples. I love that one weekend I’m creating a semi naked ganache cake with fresh flowers, and the next I’m piping royal icing swags onto a fully iced tier.
If you’re planning your wedding and feeling slightly overwhelmed by choice, that’s completely normal. We can talk it through, narrow it down and design something that suits your wedding, your venue and your personality.
Not just something Pinterest told you to like!
